Jakarta, 14 August 2025 – Indonesia’s healthcare sector continues to face significant challenges in financing medical treatments, particularly for patients with critical or chronic conditions and families with limited financial means. In 2014, out-of-pocket (OOP) health expenditure accounted for 45% of total health spending. Following the launch of the National Health Insurance program (BPJS Kesehatan or JKN), this figure fell to 27.5% in 2023 (WHO). JKN now covers more than 95% of the population as of December 2023 (WHO).
However, many households still struggle with medical costs. Average household health spending still reaches approximately IDR 743,773 per year (around US$53) (PMC). Around 27.2% of households remain uninsured, while 48.9% rely solely on JKN (PMC), leaving many vulnerable to catastrophic medical costs. At the national level, healthcare spending accounts for only 3% of GDP, well below the 7% average among upper-middle-income countries (BioMed Central). While the government funds about 57% of total health expenditure, one-third still comes directly from household budgets (BioMed Central).
These gaps have driven social organizations, hospitals, and healthcare institutions to seek innovative, efficient ways to mobilize funding for patients in need. To address this, PT Herdento Global Solusi (HGS), has developed a secure, transparent, and integrated medical crowdfunding platform designed to link verified patients with compassionate donors.
The initiative will feature:
- Flexible Donation Methods
Donors can choose between one-time or recurring contributions via bank transfer (debit), virtual account, PayPal, or credit card.
- Loyalty Program
Tiered benefits (Silver, Gold, Diamond, Emerald) integrated with healthcare partners such as hospitals, labs, and pharmacies. Donors will receive exclusive discount coupons and priority access to services like blood supplies managed by PMI and paramedic support for higher-tier members.
- Paid Media Promotions
Healthcare institutions or organizations can promote their services (e.g., hospitals, pharmacies, medical labs) to drive engagement via promotional discount schemes.
- News & Event Updates
The platform provides real-time updates on patients and “Anak Asuh”, along with event promotions and content from partner healthcare institutions or organizations, complemented by a WhatsApp chatbot for direct customer support.

Prototype of Medical CrowdFunding Platform
By combining crowdfunding, donor rewards, and healthcare partnerships, the platform aims to:
- Fill critical funding gaps for patients unable to fully benefit from universal healthcare coverage.
- Cultivate a loyal community of donors incentivized through rewards and transparent engagement.
- Foster partnerships between philanthropic individuals and healthcare providers, amplifying support for patient-driven initiatives.
- Strengthen Indonesia’s digital healthcare ecosystem, leveraging the synergies of crowdfunding, loyalty rewards, and promotional collaborations.
Currently in its development stage, this initiative is envisioned as a catalyst for change in Indonesia’s healthcare landscape. Once launched, it will offer a trusted, transparent, and collaborative space where communities can turn compassion into real, measurable impact, and help more patients access the care they urgently need.
